Why
Increase the Membership of the CPCA?
We
want
more members for three reasons
First because
more members mean more talent from our
talented Cleveland
Park community.
More hands to do the work and more people to find creative solutions
to the problems
that face our community.
Second,
we need to change the culture of the CPCA. It is oriented
toward a small group
that sees change as bad and tries to keep things just as they always
were. They
work only within their own group and rarely reach out to the
membership. This
is evidenced by having no means of communicating with the membership except
by first class mailings and no way to receive communications from the membership
at all. The first vice president refuses to use the Internet
‘as a matter of
principle’.
- We
have set up a listserv that has proved successful at getting
feedback from
members. Now, the CPCA has taken over control of the
listserv after
promising to keep it going until the elections. MORE
- We
intend to record the monthly meetings with city officials and others
and podcast them.
- We
will set up working committees that will each have its own listserv or
blog open to everyone in the community (even non-members) and use them
as forums to help solve community problems.
Finally,
we intend to restructure the CPCA from top to
bottom as open and transparent.
We need a lot of new people to help with this so
that work does not fall
only on retired people with a lot of free time.
