Plank # 5
Honor the Bylaws
Honor CPCA’s constitution and bylaws, but review and amend them to make the organization more relevant, efficient, and open to broad participation
Why Even Have This as a Plank?

We have this as a plank because we expect some of the people who will run against us do not honor the CPCA bylaws or constitution.  We say this because many people besides the officers seem to have attended the meeting where the decision to cancel the elections was made and only one that we know of left in disagreement. Others supported this decision through all three of its subsequent rationalizations. These people do not honor or respect the basic rules of the Association.
  1. The immediate explanation was that there needed to be time to 'cool off' after the Giant controversy.  Instead of things cooling off, things heated up since the issue of Giant had been settled in early May. The new issue was the cancellation of the elections, itself.
  2. The second explanation was that the purpose was to allow CPCA members to get to know candidates over the summer. When this page was written at the end of August, only the Reform Slate of candidates was announced and there was no chance for anyone to get to know the candidates over the summer.
  3. The latest explanation is that it was to allow the Nominations Committee time to recruit candidates. That one is the most ludicrous one of all. The reason that the elections were canceled was that there were too many candidates. That is, there would be opposition to the official slate.
We also have this plank since the Constitution and Bylaws need to be rewritten. Why do we need two Vice Presidents? Why do we need an Assistant Recording Secretary? Where is the position for communicating with the membership through the Listserve, polls and surveys?  What is the Human Resources Committee? We intend to open a discussion on the Listserve and rewrite the basic documents by early next year.
